The cuase of Fish Odor Syndrome is a mutation in the gene for the enzyme flavin-containing monooxygenase (FMO3), this mutation occurs on the arm of chromosome 1.

To treat fish odor syndrome you can get antibiotics to decrease the smell but it wont permenantly go away. Also using acidic lotions and soaps.

Awomen who used to have fish odor syndrome when she was younger and found a way for the smell to disappear for a while but she noticed the smel again when she had started taking 10mg of the medication atorvastatin for familial hyper-cholesterolemia and osteoarthritis.
